Biology Projects
What beans like to drink!
In many biology projects you start out the project knowing exactly what the outcome is going to be. In this one, even I am not sure what is going to happen! But this is pretty much basic science that is going to be used to find out some interesting information. Let's do science...
The project – step by step
The Question How does watering a bean plant with different liquids effect how it grows?
The Hypothesis Different liquids, when used to water a growing bean plant, will effect the growth of the plant.
The Experiment
Drink up little bean plant!
Why this experiments? When you click through to the experiment, don't be put off by the title “elementary”. It does not mean that this is for elementary school kids, but rather that this experiment is easy. Although I have included the basic experiment as one of the options for the elementary school projects, this project takes it a step further.
The Conclusion The growth of the bean plant was affected by being watered with different liquids.
HeadB: Taking it further... Now what you need to do is to compare different things in the liquids that were used to water the plants. What do I mean? Well you used a vinegar solution and a baking soda solution, right? So you can compare the results for these two and see how an acidic (vinegar) verses alkaline (baking soda) watering affected the growth of the bean plant. You could also compare the sugar solution to the pure water solution and see if any difference is seen. Then you could take it further and see if a combination, such as coke (which has a lot of sugar and is also very acidic) compares with water, the vinegar solution and the sugar solution. The possibilities are endless. If you think it through and plan it very carefully, you may be surprised at what conclusions you can come up with at the end. And who said biology projects were boring???
