Making an ecosystem diagram or model
Background
Making an ecosystem diagram or model can be really fun simply because you have so many ecosystems that you can choose from. It is also a great way to learn about ecosystems and allows you to be creative at the same time. Let's do science...
The Experiment
The Aim To make a ecosystem diagram or model showing how an ecosystem works. Equipment Needed Pens, pencils, pencil crayons, glue, scissors and anything else useful for drawing. Some picture books from which you can copy drawings of plants and animals in an ecosystem. If you are going to make the model rather than the diagram you will need a paper box. Method Choose the ecosystem you are going to make a diagram or model of. Some examples are ocean, rocky shore, indigenous forest, grassland / prairy and pond.Do some research as to what plants and animals live in the ecosystem and how they interact with each other (in other words, who eats who!)Start by drawing or creating the landscape. This is best done by coloring in the background or the inside of the box (for the model). You may want to color in paper and cut it out to stick into the model box. Then draw, color in a cut out the various animals and plants. Cut them out and stick them onto the background as they would interact. On the diagram you could draw arrows to show the interaction. If you are doing the model you can hang some of the creatures from the roof of the box with fishing line. Results The results are best shown by a picture... check this out...

The Conclusion An ecosystem and how it works can be shown by making a diagram or model.
Check out how you can make a real life ecosystem that can be used along with your ecosystem diagram or model in a science fair project.
