Taking a pulse

  • Take the wrist of the person who is having his / her pulse tested and turn it so that the palm of the hand is facing up.

  • With your index finger and your middle finger, press softly just to the side of the bones in the wrist.

  • (The other place is to check in the on the neck near the jugular vein.)

  • Either way, you should feel the pulse - count how many pulses there are in 10 seconds (for this you will obviously need a watch or stopwatch).

  • Multiply this number by 6 to give you a figure for pulse per minute.
